Greetings from the Organizing Committee: The organizing and scientific committees for X2009 are very pleased to invite your attention to this event, which will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, from August 17–20, 2009.X2009 will be convened to celebrate 30 years of progress in advancing the science and practice of exposure assessment in occupational epidemiology and hygiene. Starting with approximately 30 participants in the first conference in 1988 (Woods Hole USA), this event has grown (Leesburg USA,1990; Lyon France, 1994; Gothenburg Sweden, 2001) to 250 participants in X2004 in Utrecht The Netherlands. We believe that this series of international conferences has been central to the improvement of exposure assessment methods and practices over time. However, our ability to identify the causes of occupational disease is still limited by lack of understanding and documentation of work-related exposures. X2009 will convene researchers and practitioners to continue progress by exchanging knowledge and expertise in exposure assessment research and practice related to preventing work-related health effects. The meeting will emphasize the rapidly developing areas of exposure biology, exposure modeling and analysis, biomarkers, sensor and exposure monitor development, and improving integration of exposure assessment into occupational epidemiologic studies. On behalf of the conference organizers, we look forward to welcoming you to Boston.
