Conference Key Highlights:
The X2009 conference is organized to provide an international platform for the exchange of knowledge and expertise in exposure assessment research and practice related to preventing work-related health effects. X2009 will further research and disseminate state-of-the-art methodologies to assess exposures as causal factors of work-related conditions and health effects; and to enhance the translation of exposure assessment research into the practice of occupational hygiene. This translation of research to practice will promote effective interventions aimed at the prevention of disease, disability, and impairment associated with work.
The International Scientific Committee and the Local Organizing Committee have identified four theme areas for X2009:
- Occupational Exposure Sampling Strategies
- Exposure Biology
- Identifying Determinants of Exposure
- Dose for Biomechanics Studies
Who Should Attend and Why:
Specialists in occupational and environmental health and safety from a wide variety of settings, including academia, government, and industry will find X2009 interesting and useful for a variety of reasons. Specifically, we have identified below some topics and activities for specific groups:
Exposure Scientists and Epidemiologists
- Presentations and discussions of state-of-the-art research methods and findings
- Development of exposure biology
- Use and interpretation of biomarkers
- Exposure extrapolation for chronic risk assessment
Risk Assessors and Policy Makers
- Anticipation of new hazards
- Defining the exposure-risk relationships for chemicals
- Setting exposure limits
Practitioners and Professionals
- New hazards and methods for exposure assessment including biomarkers, prevention strategies including control banding
- Career development
- Continuing education credit
We have designed X2009 for increased interaction among the participants and presenters. Discussion and comments on papers and posters is encouraged. Practical implications of research findings and their application is a focus. Participants need to be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English.
Conference Format:
The four themes will be addressed in four mini-symposia, one each morning. Each mini-symposium will have a keynote talk on the theme, followed by breakout sessions on the theme. Each session will have up to four papers, ten minutes in length with twenty minutes for discussion.
The afternoons will be devoted to concurrent sessions. Blocks of four or eight papers will be presented in titled sessions on a set of more general themes. Each paper will have ten minutes for presentation and ten minutes for discussion, or fifteen minutes to talk and five minutes for questions. Visit our program page for more details.
